The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in March 2002 published an industry-specific quality system requirements, its full name is "Quality management system - the automotive industry production parts and related service parts of the organization to implement the special requirements of ISO9001", English is IATF16949.
Because auto parts suppliers in the United States or Europe at the same time to provide products to major Oems, it is easy to cause repeated certification of suppliers for different standards, the need to introduce a set of international general automotive industry quality system standards to meet the requirements of major Oems at the same time, TS16949 came into being. In response to the ISO9001:2015 quality management system, the standard was updated to IATF16949:2016 in 2016.
IATF16949 is only applicable to automotive Oems and their direct component manufacturers. These manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, have the ability to process and manufacture, and through the realization of this ability to add value to the product. Certification companies must have at least 12 consecutive months of production and quality management records, including a complete record of internal review and management review, to meet the quality management system, process management, customer satisfaction and other major requirements. Certified companies demonstrate that they can manage operational processes more efficiently and improve product quality; Through the third-party certification to show customers the quality management ability of the enterprise to enhance market competitiveness; Emphasize the role of standards in supply chain cooperation, through common compliance with standards, use of uniform standards, reduce risk.
